Hurricanes Blank Rebels 6-0
LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Rebels were on the road Tuesday taking on the Hurricanes, but it was all Lethbridge as the Hurricanes won 6-0, Teagan Sacher made 35 saves to get the shutout.
The Rebels started the game controlling the play, out shooting the Hurricanes 8-0 in the first half of the period. But the Hurricanes scored on their first shot on a goal from Reid Duke and added another on a breakaway from Tyler Wong. It was 2-0 for Lethbridge, despite the Rebels having a 10-4 edge in first period shots.
In the second period, the Hurricanes scored on a 5 on 3 power play with a goal from Tyler Wong, his second of the night. The Hurricanes then increased the lead to 4-0 on a goal by Riley Sheen.
In the third period, the Hurricanes had goals from Reid Nemeth and Josh Derko. The game ended 6-0 for Lethbridge. Final shots were 35-33 for Red Deer. The Rebels were 0 for 5 on the power play and killed 5 of 7 shorthanded situations.
Taz Burman started in goal for Red Deer. Grant Naherniak, who was recalled earlier in the day from AAA midget Moose Jaw, played the last 12:29 of the second period and did not give up a goal. Burman went back in for the third period. Patrik Bartosak was ill and did not make the trip.
The Rebels are on the road Friday in Cranbrook to play the Kootenay Ice and back at home Saturday to Lethbridge. Friday’s broadcast from Cranbrook will begin at 6:50PM on 106.7FM The Drive.
