Rebels mourn passing of Greg Meachem
The Red Deer Rebels Hockey Club is mourning the loss of our longtime friend Greg Meachem, who passed away Thursday after a brief illness.
Meachem joined the Rebels as writer for the team’s website in 2016, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and insight after a distinguished 35-year career with the Red Deer Advocate.
Meachem reported on the Rebels with the utmost passion and professionalism since the team joined the Western Hockey League in 1992. Fans were treated to some of the best coverage across the entire WHL thanks to Greg’s personality, skill, and dedication to his craft.
“Greg was not only an outstanding journalist, but a friend,” said Rebels Owner, President and General Manager Brent Sutter.
“For the entirety of the Rebels franchise, Greg has been the voice of junior hockey in our community, bringing the stories of our players to the couches and coffee tables of Rebels fans everywhere. Our league, franchise, and myself personally, will miss him dearly.”
Everyone with Rebels sends their heartfelt condolences to Greg’s family, including wife Brenda, daughter Kelsey (Evan), son Dallas, and his two grandchildren.
