Advantage Tigers
It was a tough night at the Enmax Centrium for the home team, as the Tigers grabbed a 1-0 series lead with a 9-1 victory. The Rebels got off to a decent start, applying some pressure in the Tigers zone and fired 5 shots on net before the game was 4 minutes old. Shortly after however, a Tigers wrist shot from the neutral zone would ellude Darcy Kuemper for the 1-0 lead. That lead would be extended on a 5 on 3 when Thomas Carr blasted one past Kuemper at 8:56. Emerson Etem would give the Tigers a 3-0 advantage after one period on a wrist shot from the high slot.
John Persson would provide a spark for Red Deer, picking up his own rebound, and wrapped one past Tyler Bunz early in the second. The excitement would be short lived as Kale Kessey drove the net and deposited a loose puck for the Tigers, and it was 4-1. The parade to the penalty box for Red Deer would continue, as Jace Coyle and Linden Vey (2) both connected on powerplay opportunities all within 2 minutes of each other. Wacey Hamilton connected on a breakaway shorthanded at 12:28, and Jace Coyle finished off the scoring with a powerplay goal at 16:29.
Shots on goal favored Red Deer 37-25.
Game 2 goes tomorrow night, 7:30 at the Enmax Centrium.
