Rebels corral Hurricanes in 5-1 victory
LETHBRIDGE – The west went wild Wednesday night at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena as the Red Deer Rebels rolled into town and stormed past the Lethbridge Hurricanes 5-1.
It was a night of firsts and fireworks out on the prairie as Kohen Lodge rode in with his first as a Rebel, Matej Mikes drove home his first Western Hockey League tally, Owen Shadrick buried a pair and Samuel Drancak kept on rolling with another big finish.
Back-to-back wins have the Rebels sitting with a 10-12-1-2 record and alone in eighth place in the WHL Eastern Conference.
Stats Story
Owen Shadrick (RD) – 2 goals
Matej Mikes (RD) – 1 goal, 1 assist
Matthew Kondro (RD) – 19 saves, win
How it Happened
Lethbridge struck first when Red Deer product, Easton Daneault buried a powerplay drop pass from Brayden Smith past Rebels netminder Matthew Kondro for the Hurricanes’ only lead of the night.
Kohen Lodge wasted no time snapping home his first as a Rebel right off the draw, bringing his hometown club even.

Adding to the scoring in the middle frame was Samuel Drancak who combined with Beckett Hamilton to go bar-down on a power play, stretching both of their impressive point streaks – Drancak now with points in 11 straight and 13 of his last 14 (9G, 8A) and Hamilton hitting 10-straight (6G, 8A).

And then things got western.
Just over eight minutes to go, Missura dropped the gloves with Gavin Lesiuk at centre ice. Moments later, Landon MacSwain squared off with Lukas Lima. Then to cap off the evening, Rebels newcomer Owen DeWitt answered the bell against Luke Cozens.
When the dust settled, the Rebels had outshot Lethbridge 34-20, controlled the pace and took care of business in all three zones.
Red Deer finished one-for-three on the powerplay, while holding Lethbridge to one-for-five.
