Carla MacLeod set to attend Special Olympics Breakfast
Prince Albert, Saskatchewan– A key member of the Canadian National Women’s Hockey Team for the past seven years, defenceman Carla MacLeod will be the guest speaker at the 6th Annual SaskPower Training for Life Power Breakfast Tuesday, March 22nd at 7:00 AM in the Ches Leach Lounge. Proceeds from the breakfast go to Special Olympics and the Prince Albert Raider Education Fund.
MacLeod began her career with the National team program in 2003 with a silver medal at the Four Nations Cup. She will bring with her to the breakfast two Olympic gold medals – from the 2006 Turin Olympics, where she was named to the All-Star team and from the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Other accomplishments include gold at the 2004 and 2006 Four Nations Cups and 2207 IIHF World Championships and silver at the 2005 IIHF World Championships. MacLeod recently retired from the National program and resides in Calgary.
The first five Training for Life Power Breakfasts have featured the likes of Jungle Jim Hunter, George Reed, Jeremy O’Day, Sami Jo Small and Mark Tewksbury and have all sold out. Over $25,000 has been raised over the first five breakfasts for both Special Olympics and the Raider Education Fund.
SaskPower is the presenting sponsor of the event with major sponsors Kin Enterprises, AODBT, Mr.Plumber, Conexus Credit Union, Broda Construction, Frank Dunn Toyota, River Park Funeral Chapel and Freedom 55 Financial. Tables of 8 for the event are $200 each and available from committee members. A limited number of individual tickets, which are $30 each are available at the Prince Albert Raiders Office.
MacLeod To Host A & W Female Hockey Session March 21st
Similar to an event hosted by Sami Jo Small in 2009, Carla MacLeod will host an on-ice session for female minor hockey players in the area, Monday, March 21st at the Art Hauser Centre as presented by A & W Restaurants of Prince Albert. The sessions will consist of an on ice component in which MacLeod will run drills assisted by the Prince Albert A & W Bears of the Saskatchewan Major Midget Female Hockey League, followed by a meet and greet including MacLeod and her two Olympic Gold Medals!
Atom and younger girls will be on the ice with MacLeod from 6:00 – 7:00 PM followed by there meet and greet until 7:45 PM. Pee Wee and older girls will hit the ice from 8:00 – 9:00 PM with their meet and greet until 9:45 PM.
Registration will be $25 per player. Details will be distributed through minor hockey coaches.
