RAIDER REVIEW: The Prince Albert Raiders (8-33-3-2) begin a four-game road trip tonight when they stop in Cranbrook to face off against the Kootenay ICE (10-27-7-1). The Raiders are coming off of a 5-1 loss to the Regina Pats on Sunday afternoon at the Art Hauser Centre. Regina’s Sam Steel opened the scoring at the 7:19 mark of first period. Spencer Moe tied the game at the 7:06 mark of the second. However, Filip Ahl and Connor Hobbs scored three minutes apart later in the period to give the Pats a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes. THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT: Cole Fonstad, Carson Miller and Spencer Moe – the three 16-year-old rookies for the Prince Albert Raiders – have been hot over the last week of games. The youngsters have combined for four goals and four assists in the last four games. All three players now have double-digit point totals, with Fonstad leading all rookies on the team with 17 points (7g-10a).
PESKINESS REWARDED: Parker Kelly is beginning to hit his stride offensively. The 17-year-old has four points (2g-2a) in the last four games, which is tied for the team lead over that span with rookie Carson Miller. He is now tied for third in team scoring with 18 points (7g-11a) on the season. He is one point away from tying his total from last season.
STREAK SNAPPED: For the first time since joining the Raiders, 19-year-old centreman Jordy Stallard was held without a point on Sunday afternoon against the Regina Pats. Stallard’s streak ended with two goals and an assist in his first three games with the team. It also ended the Winnipeg Jets’ draft pick’s six-game point streak, dating back to January 2 when he was still a member of the Calgary Hitmen.
SHUTTING THE DOOR: Ian Scott has been stellar in goal during his young career against the Kootenay ICE. The 18-year-old draft eligible goalie has two shutouts in three starts against the ICE, including earlier this season.
NEXT UP: The Raiders continue their road trip on Friday night when they take on the Red Deer Rebels at the Enmax Centrium. Puck drop is at 8 p.m. The next Raiders’ home game is on Friday, January 27 against the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Canada 150 Night. The Raiders will be wearing special jerseys that evening celebrating the three Prime Ministers with ties to Prince Albert. For more information on the night, click here.
