WHL ALBERTA BANTAM PROSPECTS CAMP WRAPS UP IN CALGARY
The WHL Alberta Bantam Prospects Camp, in partnership with Hockey Alberta, wraps up today in Calgary after three days of combine testing, scrimmages, and educational seminars. Attended by 108 elite second year Bantam players (1999-born) from across the province, the weekend gave WHL scouts a pre-season opportunity to view WHL Draft-eligible players, while providing players with information to aid in their hockey development. This was the second Bantam prospects camp held by the WHL, and the response from both scouts and parents has been very positive.
“I think we have accomplished the goals of the camp,” commented WHL Manager of Player Development and Recruitment Tyler Boldt. “Players worked hard and performed well in front of WHL scouts, giving our league a great first look at Alberta players eligible for the 2014 WHL Draft, while the combine testing and seminars should provide tools and information to help players reach their full potential.”
The camp began on Friday with on and off-ice combine testing, executed by Sport Testing (www.sporttesting.com). This extensive testing program is currently used by the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game as well as multiple NHL Clubs, the Ontario Hockey League, and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Saturday and Sunday the players took part in competitive scrimmages, as well as a player development seminar and a WHL Prospects Information Session. Also, with 1999 players being eligible to compete for their province in the 2015 Canada Winter Games, representatives from Hockey Alberta took the opportunity to inform parents on the Team Alberta program.
The players also benefitted from excellent coaching during the camp, as the benches were occupied by WHL Alumni and WHL scouts. WHL Alumni who served as camp coaches included Spencer Edwards (06-11) Pat Beauchesne (84-88), Walker Wintoneak (05-10), Chris Sotiropoulos (96-99), Jeremy Thompson (93-96), and Davis Vandane (09-13).
