Defenceman Karl Alzner was selected fifth overall by the Washington Capitals at the 2007 NHL Draft. Alzner would also strike gold not once but twice with Team Canada at the 2007 and 2008 World Junior Championships, captaining the 2008 team in the Czech Republic.
