Karnaukhov drafted
The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club is proud to announce 18-year-old forward Pavel Karnaukhov (KAR-nuh-kov) was selected by the Calgary Flames in the fifth round, 136th overall, in the 2015 NHL Draft.
“We are very excited that Pavel is being rewarded for all his hard work and commitment to coming to Canada. We’re even more excited that he will continue his development in the Flames organization, “said Mike Moore, Hitmen General Manager and Vice President of Business Operations. “Pavel is a big, strong forward who is willing to pay a price to score goals. He showed terrific growth as a rookie this past season and we expect him to be a key offensive contributor going forward.”
Karnaukhov, a native of Minsk, Belarus, had a strong debut season with the Hitmen, scoring 20 goals, fourth most of any first-year WHL player, while adding 22 assists for 42 points in 69 regular season games. The import forward also turned in a strong playoff run, collecting 11 points (6g, 5a) in 17 games.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound forward was Calgary’s first round selection, 56th overall, in the 2014 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft. He becomes the 50th player in franchise history to be taken in the NHL Draft.
