Hitmen Complete Weekend Sweep
The Calgary Hitmen extended their winning streak to three games by completing a home-and-home sweep of the Edmonton Oil Kings with a 10-2 victory on Saturday night at Rogers Place.
The contest took on a similar look as Friday’s 6-1 home ice win as for the second consecutive game, the Hitmen jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead.
After the Oil Kings cut the deficit to 3-2 early in the middle frame, the floodgates once again opened for Calgary with four unanswered goals by the visitors to build a 7-2 advantage after 40 minutes.
In the third period the Hitmen kept rolling, adding three more goals en route to a season high 10 in a game this season.
Sean Tschigerl (2g, 2a) and Oliver Tulk (1g, 3a) led the way for Calgary with four points each, helping Tulk eclipse the 100-point mark in his WHL career. Carson Wetsch and Maxim Muranov both chipped in a pair of goals with Ben Kindel, David Adaszynski and Carter Yakemchuk adding singles. Dax Williams, Carter MacAdams and captain Tyson Galloway both notched two assists each on a night where 13 different Hitmen recorded at least a point.
Special teams proved to be a huge driver for Calgary with the power play turning in a 4-4 performance while also adding a shorthanded marker.
The Hitmen outshot Edmonton 39-32 as rookie goaltender Alex Garrett made 30 saves to earn the victory. Skyler Bruce and Adam Jecho provided the Oil Kings scoring.
The Hitmen, 9-8-2-0, will enjoy a full five-day break before next weekend serves up another home-and-home set. On Friday, Nov. 17 it’s a visit from the Rebels in a 7:00 p.m. start at Scotiabank Saddledome before the rematch in Red Deer on Saturday, Nov. 18.
