Cougars Sign Goaltender Tavin Grant to A Standard WHL Contract.
The Prince George Cougars are pleased to announce that they have signed 1998-born goaltender Tavin Grant (Burnaby, B.C.) to a standard WHL contract.
Grant (6’1, 175 pounds) played last season with the Vancouver Northwest Giants of the B.C. Major Midget League. In 21 games, Grant finished with a record of 15-2-2 and a 2.04 goals-against-average, which was tops in the B.C. Major Midget League. His playoff record was 3-2.
“It was nice to finally sign with the Prince George Cougars,” said Tavin Grant. “I’m excited to get to work and help this team win games over the next few seasons.”
“Tavin’s passion for the game and his compete level were extremely evident during training camp. He’s an athletic goaltender that finds ways to stop the puck,” said Prince George Cougars General Manager, Todd Harkins. “He demonstrated last season that he’s an elite goaltender, leading the Northwest Giants in the Major Midget League as a 15-year-old goaltender in a very competitive league.”
Harkins adds, “Tavin comes from a minor hockey program (Burnaby Minor) where he faced many shots and his development continues to accelerate as he grows as a person and a player. With Tavin under contract we expect him to challenge for a roster spot throughout the preseason.”
Grant is the youngest of the four goaltenders remaining with the Cougars after training camp. Grant and the Cougars will be in action this weekend in St. Albert against Red Deer tomorrow morning and Medicine Hat on Sunday. Both games are at 10:30 AM local time.
