Cats Blank The Tigers 5-0.
The Prince George Cougars could not have asked for a better start to the preseason. After a 6-3 Saturday win against Red Deer, the Prince George Cougars followed up with a 5-0 shutout victory over the Medicine Hat Tigers. Chase Witala led the way with two goals and an assist, and Brett Zarowny and Devon Fordyce teamed up for the shutout.
Daulton Siwak got the Prince George Cougars on the board at 12:48 of the first period on the powerplay. Siwak’s goal was assisted by both Jari Erricson and Troy Bourke. The Cougars took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission. They outshot Medicine Hat 15-8, and had full control in the first period.
Chase Witala extended their lead early in the second period on an assist from Dallas Ehrhardt. Ehrhardt then notched a powerplay goal for the Cougars to give them a 3-0 lead at the halfway point of the game. Troy Bourke added his second assist of the game on Ehrhardt’s goal.
Early in the third, the Cougars made it 4-0 when Chase Witala scored his second of the game. Carson Bolduc assisted on the goal at 4:41 of the third. Brock Hirsche then finished the games scoring at 12:18, with Witala adding an assist for his third point of the game.
Troy Bourke chipped in with two assists, and defenceman Dallas Ehrhardt also recorded a two-point game.
Brett Zarowny and Devon Fordyce were both big when called upon. They combined on a 28 save shutout. The Cougars outshot Medicine Hat 41-28.
The Prince George Cougars outscored their opposition 11-3 during the weekend including three goals that were scored on the powerplay.
The Prince George Cougars will return home to prepare for a weekend showdown with the Edmonton Oil Kings. The defending WHL champs are in town for games on Friday, September 7th and Saturday September 8th at CN Centre.
