Chiefs Get First Win Out East, 6-2 At Moose Jaw
The Spokane Chiefs broke out of their recent scoring drought with a 3 goal second and 3 goal third period on their way to a 6-2 victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors Tuesday night in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. The win was Spokane’s first in three games on their 6 game Eastern Division road trip, and was the 4th straight over the Warriors in the annual meeting between the two clubs.
Moose Jaw would jump out to a 1-0 lead on a goal from Brett Howden just 14 seconds into the game when a pass from former Chiefs defenseman Matt Sozanski went off of Howden’s leg net front. The goal would prove to be the only score of the first, as the Warriors out shot Spokane 9-6 in the period. The Chiefs came out firing in the second, as defenseman Jeff Faith scored his first career goal only 26 seconds into the stanza to tie the game at one. Spokane would strike again at 1:08 when Hudson Elyniuk scored his second of the season from Keanu Yamamoto to make it 2-1. Kailer Yamamoto would add to the advantage with his season high 8th goal of the year at 3:25 to put the Chiefs up 3-1. Moose Jaw would score just 14 seconds later though to cut the Spokane lead to 3-2 after two periods.
Spokane would blow the game open in the third as Keanu Yamamoto scored only 46 seconds into the period on a Jaret Anderson-Dolan pass to give the Chiefs a 4-2 cushion. Tanner Wishnowski would then tip a Jordan Henderson in for his second of the season and first goal as a Chief at 1:27 to make it 5-2 Spokane. Wishnowski has scored in 3 of 4 games with Spokane. Elyniuk would cap a two goal and three point night with a power play tally at 11:19 to wrap up a 6-2 Chiefs win. Kailer and Keanu Yamamoto also had three point games with a goal and two assists apiece.
The Chiefs outshot Moose Jaw 17-6 in the third period and 31-21 in the game. The win snapped Spokane’s two game losing streak and the Chiefs now have a 3 point lead over Seattle for 4th place in the U.S. Division. The Chiefs will continue their Eastern Division road trip when they head to Saskatoon for game 4 of the journey Wednesday night at 6pm Pacific. Mike Boyle will have the call on 1510 KGA, starting with the pre-game show at 5:30 p.m.
