BLAZERS WIN SIXTH IN A ROW, 4-2 OVER ROYALS
The Kamloops Blazers won for the sixth consecutive game in a 4-2 home ice victory over the Victoria Royals. Dylan Willick opened the scoring on the power play as he was set up nicely by Brendan Ranford for a 1-0 lead. The Blazers made it 2-0 only 13 seconds later as Colin Smith found JC Lipon at the side of the net for his 10th goal of the season. Cole Cheveldave also stopped Robin Soudek on a penalty shot in the period to preserve a 2-0 lead through the first period.
The Royals came on in the second period. Austin Carroll found Zane Jones on the side of the net and his one-timer beat Cheveldave to make it 2-1 for the Blazers. The Royals tied the game up when Ben Walker’s shot deflected off a Blazers stick beating Cheveldave to tie the game at 2-2.
The Blazers won this game in the third period. Ryan Hanes got the winner as Chase Souto centered the puck and Hanes found it to bury his 4th goal of the season for a 3-2 lead. The Blazers sealed the win as Brendan Ranford set up Matt Needham to make it 4-2. The Royals had some late pressure, but Cole Cheveldave was there to shut the door and the Blazers won 4-2.
This was the fourth time in nine nights that the Blazers beat the Royals. The Blazers are the second team in the WHL to reach 20 wins this season. The Blazers were 1-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
The final home game before the Christmas break is this Wednesday when the Blazers host the Everett Silvertips. Game time is 7:00pm.
