BLAZERS WEEK IN REVIEW, JANUARY 21

Week in Review:

Tuesday, January 15^th, 2013 at Victoria Royals – 6-4 Loss

The Blazers surrendered a 3-1 third period lead allowing four power play goals in the third period to suffer a 6-4 loss. Matt Needham and Cole Ully each had a goal and an assist for the Blazers in the loss. Goaltender Cole Cheveldave made 19 saves taking the loss. The Blazers were 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Royals finished 4-for-7. Recap and Highlights.

The Blazers again surrendered a third period lead due to a lengthy five-on-three power play. The Royals tied it up with the Blazers down two players and hung around to win in a 16-player shootout. Dylan Willick and Cole Ully scored goals for the Blazers, while Taran Kozun made 26 saves taking the shootout loss. The Blazers were 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Royals finished 1-for-5. The Blazers were consistent and stayed out of the penalty box in a 4-1 road victory in Tri-City. The Blazers surrendered the game’s first goal, but goals by Matt Needham, Chase Souto and Colin Smith (2) sealed the win. Saturday, January 19^th, 2013 vs. Victoria Royals – 5-4 Loss

For the third time this week, the Blazers were stunned by the Victoria Royals. The Royals again used the power play to make the Blazers pay scoring two third period power play goals for a 5-4 win. Frustration got the best of the Blazers as they surrendered 10 power play opportunities to the Royals who scored three times with the man advantage. Scott Niedermayer Retirement Night is approaching this week as the Blazers will raise his #28 to the rafters in a pre-game ceremony on Friday, January 25^th when the Blazers host the Prince Albert Raiders.

Special dignitaries that will also be in attendance for the evening include Scott’s former General Manager in Anaheim Brian Burke, Scott’s former General Manager in Kamloops Bob Brown, WHL Commissioner Ron Robison, the last player to have his number retired by the Blazers and current co-owner, Mark Recchi, as well as former Jr. Oilers/Blazers Greg Hawgood (1983-88) and Greg Evtushevski (1982-86) who have also had their numbers retired by the Blazers.

All fans in attendance will receive a commemorative poster at the conclusion of the game from the special pre-game ceremony.

Prospects Nick Chyzowski and Tyson McLellan Honoured

Nick Chyzowski, who was selected by the Blazers in the second round of the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft, recently competed in the B.C. Major Midget Hockey League All-Star game this past weekend in Langley, BC. The 15-year-old plays for the Thompson Blazers of the BCMML and has 11 goals and 16 points in 29 games this season.

List player Tyson McLellan has had a terrific season with the U-16 San Jose Jr. Sharks who play in the North American Prospects Hockey League. The 16-year-old has 17 goals, 25 assists and 42 points in 22 games this season.
