BLAZERS GET THE WIN IN VICTORIA
The Blazers took the lead three different times in the game and held on in the end to win 4-3 in Victoria Tuesday night. Chase Schaber opened the scoring for the Blazers as his centering pass was redirected in for a 1-0 Blazers lead. The Royals tied it before the period was out as Jamie Crooks scored on a rebound to tie the game at 1-1 through the first period.
Schaber made it 2-1 in favour of the Blazers scoring on the power play on a terrific pass from Brendan Ranford. The Royals, who played weil in this game, tied it up as Jamie Crooks struck again finding a rebound in front of the Blazers net. The game was tied at 2-2 heading into the third period with the Blazers holding a 21-19 advantage on the shot clock.
The Blazers capitalized in the third period. Team captain Chase Schaber was sent on a breakaway by Ranford and buried his third of the game to give the Blazers a 3-2 lead. JC Lipon then broke in and beat goaltender Keith Hamilton to give the Blazers a 4-2 lead. Logan Nelson capitalized for the Royals off a face off, as the puck bounced over a Blazers defender and onto Nelson’s stick. Nelson cut the lead to 4-3 as the Royals put pressure on the Blazers. The Royals were given a power play with 1:29 to play, but the Blazers killed it off and won the game 4-3.
Cole Cheveldave earned his 10th win of the season with 26 saves while Keith Hamilton turned aside 26 for the Royals. The Blazers finished 1-for-4 on the power play, while they were 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
These two teams go at it again tomorrow in Victoria to conclude the doubleheader. Game time is 7:05pm at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre.
