BLAZERS FALL IN A SHOOTOUT TO ROCKETS 3-2
The Kamloops Blazers couldn’t get it done in Kelowna, but still earned a point in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Kelowna Rockets. The Blazers are still 6-0-0-3 in their past nine road games. The first period was scoreless with the Blazers outshooting the Rockets 9-6 in the period.
Brendan Ranford opened the scoring for the Blazers making a great move around the defenseman and shelfing it for his 100th career WHL goal and a 1-0 lead. The Rockets replied though as Damon Severson set up Shane McColgan who snapped a shot home to tie the game. The Blazers made it 2-1 when Austin Madaisky’s point shot went off the goal post and in. The goal was Madaisky’s 10th of the season and was scored on the power play. The Blazers led 2-1 through two periods.
The Rockets were on a mission in the third period. They had a ton of chances and Brett Bulmer rushed in and was stopped by Cole Cheveldave. Shortly after he found a loose puck and blasted home his 20th goal of the season to tie the game at 2-2. The Blazers’ Brendan Ranford had a chance late to give the Blazers a lead, but a great defensive play by MacKenzie Johnston denied Ranford. The game was headed to overtime.
Overtime solved nothing and the game ended up in a shootout. Austin Madaisky and Brendan Ranford were both stopped by goaltender Adam Brown, while Zach Franko and Myles Bell both beat Cole Cheveldave to give the Rockets a 3-2 win. The Rockets outshot the Blazers 36-25 in the game. With the point, the Blazers still stayed one point ahead of the Tri-City Americans for first overall in the WHL standings.
