BLAZERS EDGE ‘TIPS IN EVERETT
Colin Smith and JC Lipon scored goals in regulation time and Lipon added the only goal of the shootout as the Blazers beat the Everett Silvertips 3-2 on Saturday night. The Silvertips were the better team to start the game, but the Blazer struck first on a three-on-two. Tim Bozon found a trailing Smith and set him up for a one-timer that beat Daniel Cotton to make it 1-0 3:31 into the game. The Silvertips replied 3:07 later as Landon Oslanski’s blast from the point found its way through bodies to make it 1-1. Despite the Silvertips holding an 11-5 shot advantage in the first, the Blazers held the lead going into the period break. Brendan Ranford gave a great feed to Lipon who scored his 27th of the season to make it 2-1 Blazers through the first period.
The Silvertips continued their strong play into the second period. The Silvertips eventually even the game up on a power play. Manraj Hayer found Landon Oslanski at the point and he one-timed a puck past goaltender Cole Cheveldave to make it 2-2.
The Blazers took the game over in the third period. They were adamant to end it in regulation time. Cole Ully had the best chances of the period, but he was denied by the post twice and by Cotton on a great save. The Blazers outshot the Silvertips 17-3 in the period, but credit to Cotton for keeping this one tied at 2-2.
Both teams had their chances in overtime, but were denied and to a shootout the game went. Both Cotton and Cheveldave stopped the first three shooters aside. JC Lipon was the Blazers fourth shooter and beat Cotton on a high shot. Ryan Harrison had a chance to even it up for the Silvertips but was denied by Cheveldave as the Blazers went on to win 3-2.
The Blazers finished up a busy week going 3-1-0-0 and have won five of their past six games.
The Blazers were 0-for-4 on the power play and finished 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.
The Blazers now return home for two games this week as they host the Everett Silvertips this Thursday night and the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday night.
