WHL Stars & Debuts: Minten makes good with Maple Leafs
Kamloops Blazers forward Fraser Minten – the sensation of the NHL preseason – made his NHL regular season debut Wednesday evening as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The 19-year-old product of Vancouver saw 11:32 of ice time Wednesday, recording one hit and one shot as the Leafs secured a 6-45 shootout win over the Montreal Canadiens.
Minten, who was selected by the Maple Leafs with a second-round pick (38th overall) in the 2022 NHL Draft, enjoyed a career campaign last season in Kamloops, recording 67 points (31G-36A) in 57 regular season games. He added another four points (2G-2A) in 10 post-season outings and scored once in four games at the 2023 Memorial Cup.
Originally selected by the Blazers in the fourth round (72nd overall) of the 2019 WHL Draft, Minten has served as an alternate captain in Kamloops while collecting 140 points (55G-85A) in 144 regular season games. He has seen plenty of playoff time over his WHL career as well, skating in 27 games and accruing 20 points (8G-12A).
