The Kamloops Blazers welcomed the Everett Silvertips for the second time in just under two weeks back to the Sandman Centre.
The first period got off to a slow start but the pace picked up about five minutes in when the Blazers developed a powerplay. JP Hurlbert and Nathan Behm connected on a two-on-one rush, but Behm couldn’t beat Anders Miller. The Silvertips responded with a chance of their own, as Rylan Gould ripped a high shot that Logan Edmonstone knocked aside.
Kamloops struck first on the man advantage, as captain Ryan Michael rifled a one-timer past Miller. As the first period wound down, Blazers’ Madden Tymchak and Silvertips’ Clarke Schaefer dropped the gloves for a spirted scrap that got the Blazers crowd roaring.
The second period opened and not even two minutes into the frame Behm drew a hooking call that resulted in a penalty shot but he could’ve beat Miller. Everett capitalized shortly after, when Rylan Gould snapped one past Logan Edmonstone to tie the game. The Silvertips then pulled ahead as Julius Miettinen sniped one to make it 2–1, before adding another goal moments later to extend the lead to 3–1.
The Blazers didn’t back down. On the ensuing shift, Ty Bonkowski ripped a wrist shot from the point that beat Miller to cut the deficit to one. Kamloops kept pressing with chances from Behm and Rhett Ravndahl, but Miller held his ground to keep it 3–2 after forty minutes.
Kamloops got the third period off with a quick start as Hurlbert walked in and rang one off the post. Everett responded with sustained pressure, searching for the insurance marker, but Edmonstone stood tall with a series of clutch saves to keep Kamloops within one.
The Blazers refused to back down. With under five minutes remaining, hometown product Jordan Keller ripped a one-timer past Anders Miller to tie the game 3–3 and send the Sandman Centre crowd into a frenzy.
Overtime ended quickly, as the Silvertips capitalized on a turnover just over a minute in to seal the 4–3 win.
The Blazers will look to bounce back when they host the Edmonton Oil Kings on Tuesday for a 2:00 P.M. matchup at the Sandman Centre.
