Asher Gingras Hungry to Make Blazers

For Asher Gingras, this year’s training camp carries extra weight. After breaking his ankle last season and seeing his year cut short, the forward has come into preseason determined to prove he belongs.
“I broke my ankle last season, so my season got cut short,” Gingras explained. “Now I’m back out here bigger, stronger, and faster than I was last year, just wanting to do whatever I can to get a spot on this team.”
Last season, Gingras tallied 16 goals and 28 points in 20 games with Pilot Mount Academy.
Gingras describes himself as a reliable two-way forward, someone who can contribute offensively and lock things down defensively when the game is on the line. “I’m a two-way forward. I can score big goals, but if we’re up a couple in the third, I can lock it down and be strong defensively,” he said.
The 16-year-old models his game after Montreal Canadiens forward Juraj Slafkovsky, a big-bodied modern-day power forward. “I grew up loving a few different guys, but lately I’ve been watching Juraj Slafkovsky. He’s a bigger player who likes to score goals, and I’ve really enjoyed watching him.”
Gingras prides himself on being a positive presence in the locker room.“It’s about bringing energy and staying positive. Block a shot, cheer loud for the boys, don’t bring anyone down. That attitude has been working, and it’s shown in how we play.”
For Gingras, this season is about more than bouncing back from injury; it’s about becoming a difference maker on a team with expectations.
