Sidney Crosby named CHL Player of the Week
Toronto – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Sidney Crosby of the Rimouski Oceanic is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday March 13 after scoring six goals and 12 points in two games.
Crosby scored three goals and four assists in a 10-6 win over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies on March 11 and recorded his second straight hat trick and added two assists in an 8-4 win over the Val d’Or Foreurs on March 12 that extended Rimouski’s undefeated streak to 25 games. They need two more games to tie the QMJHL record of 27 games without a loss set by the Eperviers de Sorel in 1973-74 and equaled by the Quebec Remparts in 1998-99.
Crosby leads all CHL scorers with 64 goals and 93 assists for 157 points in 59 games. It’s the fourth time this season that he has been named CHL Player of the Week.
Martin Houle of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles was the QMJHL’s defensive player of the week after posting a 1-0-1 record with a 1.44 goals against average and .948 save percentage. Derek Yeomans of the Kelowna Rockets was the WHL Player of the Week after posting a 3-0-0 record with a 1.33 goals against average and .941 save percentage and Mark Mancari of the Ottawa 67’s was the OHL Player of the Week after scoring six goals and nine points in four games.
