Rockets’ Damon Severson named CHL Player of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that New Jersey Devils prospect Damon Severson of the Kelowna Rockets is the CHL Player of the Week for the playoff week ending April 6 after recording seven points in two games including three goals and four assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-3.
Severson helped the top ranked Rockets open the WHL’s Western Conference Semi-Finals with a pair of victories over the fourth place Seattle Thunderbirds. The defenceman scored twice with two assists to earn first star honours last Thursday in the 6-2 Rockets’ victory in the series opener, then scored once with two assists on Saturday in Game 2 lifting the Rockets to a 6-3 victory.
Severson, a 19-year-old from Melville, SK, is playing in his fourth WHL season with the Rockets. Selected by the Devils in the second round of the 2012 NHL Draft, Severson was named a 2013-14 Western Conference Second-Team All-Star. This season he finished tied for sixth among WHL defencemen in scoring with 61 points in 64 games and has nine points in seven post-season games.
Also considered for the award this week was San Jose Sharks prospect Chris Tierney of the London Knights who scored twice with five assists for seven points in two games of the OHL’s Western Conference Semi-Finals against the Guelph Storm.
