Petes’ Michael Giugovaz Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Peterborough Petes rookie netminder Michael Giugovaz is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week after posting a 2-0-0-0 record with a goals-against-average of 1.44 and save percentage of .964 for the week ending October 29.
Giugovaz backstopped the Petes to two straight wins for the first time this season making 80 saves in a pair of starts to close out the month of October. He made 35 saves including 18 in the third period on Saturday night as second star of a 3-1 win over the Saginaw Spirit, then made 45 saves on Sunday plus stopped two shootout attempts as the game’s third star preserving a 3-2 shootout win over the East Division leading Oshawa Generals.
Giugovaz, a 17-year-old from Brampton, ON, is playing in his first OHL season with the Petes after being a tenth round pick in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection. He carries a 4-2-2-0 record with a 3.39 goals-against-average and a .912 save percentage in nine games this season.
Also considered for the award this week was Ty Rimmer of the Lethbridge Hurricanes who posted a 3-1-0-0 record with a 1.25 goals-against-average and a .960 save percentage, and Philippe Cadorette of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar who went 2-0-0-0 with a 1.50 goals-against-average and a .940 save percentage.
