Vader’s late goal draws Lakers even in 1-1 tie
After a tournament-opening loss, the Huron-Perth Lakers fought back in the third period to earn a point, finishing the game in a 1-1 tie against the Quinte Red Devils.
Scoreless headed into the third, Ben Vreugdenhil (1) netted one for Quinte, but the Lakers wouldn’t give up as captain Tate Vader (1) tied the game in the final minute of regulation.
“Scoring that goal was great, I haven’t had one of those in a while especially with Covid giving us a mini retirement with all the tournament cancellations, so to get back in there and to have a good game was pretty nice,” said Vader.
A great defensive battle, neither teams were able to score in the 3-0n-3 overtime period.
“It was definitely a battle this morning, Quinte’s a pretty good team and so are we.”
Huron-Perth’s Carter McCluskey blocked 30 shots earning Player of the Game for the Lakers as Quinte’s Ben Danford was also awarded game honours.
The Lakers return to action at 11:15am tomorrow morning, while Quinte takes on the Markham Majors later today at 4:00pm.
