Marlboros blank TPH to earn spot in Quarter-Finals
Finishing the Round Robin with a 3-1 record, the Toronto Marlboros have now clinched second place in the Nash Division with a 4-0 win over TPH Hockey.
The Marlies put markers on the board with individual goals from Jeremy Martin (3), Jason Zhou (1), Aidan Lane (8) and Lev Katzin (3) as Lane, William Moore, Anthony Di Carlo, Nolan Turnbull and Matheas Stark all contributed assists to the win.
Jaeden Nelson stayed solid between the pipes, making 12 saves for the shutout.
Martin spoke to the Marlboros’ performance and what’s next for the team, “We had a bit of a rough start with the loss in the first game, but we definitely picked it up and now we’re ready to play our game.”
“It’s always team first, individual points don’t matter. It’s getting our team name on the trophy and hoisting it at the end of the tournament to complete the comeback.”
Making their way past the Round Robin for the 10th consecutive time, the Marlies will face off against the Waterloo Wolves on Saturday at 10:00am in quarter-final action. Toronto’s Aidan Lane finished the Round Robin as OHL Cup scoring leader, putting up 12 points (8-4–12) over four games.
TPH Hockey closes-out their OHL Cup with a 2-2-0 record. Jackson Hone (1-2–3) led the team in scoring.
