Tanner Ducharme (3) and Zander Kachego (1) got the scoring started for the Jr. Knights, giving them a 2-0 lead early on. Whitby’s Griffen Boyle would bring the Wildcats within one with fifteen seconds left in the first frame. It was a back and forth second period with Young scoring his first of two in the game to restore London’s two-goal lead. Sutton Edwards (1) potted Whitby’s second goal of the contest, followed by a goal from top prospect Ryan Roobroeck (1) to give the Knights a 4-2 lead heading into the final frame.
Down by two with under a minute to play, Drew McLennan (2) would score the first of two Whitby goals with the goalie out, followed by James Henderson (1) potting the tying goal with 1.4 seconds left to play to send the game to OT.
“It was a great pass from Parker Snelgrove to send me in alone, made a move, and I’m just happy it went in,” said Young as he spoke about his gorgeous overtime winner.
