Fitzgerald scores twice as Petes improve to 2-0
The Peterborough Petes clinched their second win of the 2024 OHL Cup Showcase with a 5-2 victory over the Niagara North Stars.
Colin Fitzgerald (2) led the Petes to victory with a pair of markers, while Evan Healy (1), Nolan Buttar (1) and Rylan Cunningham (2) each contributed a goal to the win.
Fitzgerald (2) spoke on his team’s performance, and winning their first two games of the tournament, “I think this morning’s game was kind of what dictated the turn out of our tournament so far, getting a big win against the Marlies as the underdog. I think building on that momentum really sets us up for success.”
Leading his team in scoring, Fitzgerald feels confident heading into Tuesday action.
“It’s good to get the first couple of goals under my belt. It felt awesome and definitely gives me more confidence moving into tomorrow.”
Buttar (1) earned Player of the Game for Peterborough, while Dillon Atkinson also earned the honours for Niagara.
Niagara is back in action tomorrow at 10:00am against the London Jr. Knights while Peterborough looks to secure their third win of the tournament at 1:15pm against the Ottawa Myers Automotive.
