Enns triple OT winner pushes North Stars into OHL Cup
In a battle between two OMHA rivals, the Niagara North Stars advanced to the 2025 OHL Cup with a 2-1 triple overtime victory over the Oakville Rangers.
Anthony Stasiowski (1) scored midway through the first for Niagara. As the North Stars would hold a 1-0 lead until the Rangers would tie the game on a powerplay goal from Marcus Magri (1) late in the third.
Goaltenders Nick Soliman (30SV) and Charlie Weiss (22SV) would shut things down for their teams until defenceman Trent Enns (1) would score the overtime winning goal off a point shot through traffic.
“It was a nice screen by Stasiowski, just saw some room over the pad. It was a great feeling to put that in,” said Enns, describing the goal that put North Stars through to the main event.
Battling it out against Oakville all year long with a spot in the OHL Cup on the line the North Stars knew it was going to take everything, “It feels amazing to be in the OHL Cup, it means everything, in our last year of minor hockey, we just want a chance to win it all,” said Enns.
The North Stars will join the Nash Division as they will play the GTHL Champion Don Mills Flyers in their first round robin game at the event.
