Barrie and London battle to 2-2 tie
An evenly matched clash between a pair of third place teams went the distance, but overtime solved nothing as the London Jr. Knights and the Barrie Jr. Colts fought to a 2-2 draw.
The Jr. Knights led 2-1 right up until the final five minutes of the third when Barrie’s Connor Corcoran drew his club even with assists from Barret Kirwin and Matt Nastasiuk.
Kirwin and Corcoran both finished the game with a goal and an assist as the Colts earned a point in the standings.
“I thought we carried a good portion of the play but we have to cash in on our chances,” said Kirwin. “We had a lot of good opportunities that we didn’t finish on and that can cost you in big games.”
The Jr. Knights settled for a point as well after nearly winning the game late in the third.
“It was an improvement over this morning’s performance,” said head coach Greg Benedetti, referring to London’s 6-2 defeat at the hands of the Don Mills Flyers to start the day. “Considering we finished that game with one of our worst third periods of the season, our effort here was an upgrade. You want to win those close games, but we’ll have to settle for the point.”
London and Barrie sit with identical 0-1-1 records following the first tie of the 2016 OHL Cup.
