Myers shuts out Niagara for first win of showcase
Ottawa Myers Automotive captured their first win of the 2024 OHL Cup presented by FPS Payment as they shutout the Niagara North Stars 5-0.
Myers defenceman Brady Blaseg (1G, 2A) had a game-high three points including Myers’ second goal of the game to help execute a total team effort. Henry Doucet (2), Max Mews (2), and Xavier Tessier (2) also found the back of the net for Myers, while goaltender Matthias D’Souza stopped all 12 shots he faced as he picked up the shutout.
Captain of his Myers team, Blaseg was quick to put praise onto the rest of his team despite having the success he did in the game, saying, “I don’t really care too much about the points to be honest, it was just a good effort as a whole, the defencemen got pucks through, goaltending was great, and our forwards were good too.”
“It’s a fantastic opportunity that we’ve talked about all year to get the chance to not only play here but play in an elimination game at the OHL Cup,” said the Myers captain as Myers will take on the Toronto Marlboros later today at 3:30pm this afternoon with a spot in the quarterfinal on the line.
Underage forward Kieran Raynor received Zephyr Player of the Game honours for Niagara North as he registered a game-high five shots on goal.
Wild card entry Niagara North finishes their 2024 OHL Cup with a record of 1-3 with Ty Daniels (1G, 2A) and Nicholas Gilby (1G, 2A) leading the North Stars in scoring with three points each.
