Goure puts up eight points in record-setting night for Attack
Deni Goure put on a performance more than 40 years in the making on Thursday at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre, recording eight points in the Owen Sound Attack’s 10-2 win over the Niagara IceDogs.
Goure’s three goal, five assist performance sets a new benchmark in the history of the Owen Sound Attack/Platers and Guelph Platers franchise in the OHL, one that dates back to the 1982-83 season. It’s the first eight-point game in the OHL since Matt Caria of the Toronto St. Michael’s Majors scored a hat-trick and five assists in a 10-1 win over the Brampton Battalion back on Nov. 16, 2006.
“It was pretty surreal. I had no idea,” Goure told the Owen Sound Sun-Times after breaking a record previously held by Jim Ensom and Cameron Brace, who both netted seven points in a single game.
“It still hasn’t really sunk in yet, but it’s awesome. I’m really happy about it,” Goure added. “And the hat trick. I didn’t want to go my whole career without getting one of those.”
A 20-year-old from Grand Pointe, Ont., Goure also has a six-point performance this season, one that came on Nov. 16th in Windsor. He leads the Attack with 46 points (19-27–46) in 32 games and eclipsed the 200-point mark on his OHL career Thursday night, currently possessing 201 (85-116–201) over 223 regular season games. He was Owen Sound’s first round (10th overall) pick in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection.
