Colts add Finch and Teakle to Hockey Operations Department

The Barrie Colts announced today that Kyle Finch and Justin Teakle have joined the organization, with Finch serving as Assistant Coach & Video Coach and Teakle as Director of Prospect Development.

Finch will work alongside the Colts’ bench staff while also leading the club’s video program, breaking down game and practice footage to support in-game strategy and player development throughout the season. He will report to the club’s hockey operations staff and collaborate directly with the coaching group.

Teakle steps into the newly formed Director of Prospect Development role, bringing more than a decade of coaching and player-development experience to the position. He spent over ten years coaching in the Ontario Junior Hockey League, with stops at the Streetsville Derbys, Cobourg Cougars, and two seasons as an assistant coach with the Trenton Golden Hawks, before being named Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel of the Toronto Patriots.

Knights sign goaltender Kobe Nadalin

LONDON, ON - The London Knights are pleased to announce the signing of Goaltender Kobe Nadalin to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement. Nadalin joins the Knights organization following a strong 2025-26 season split between the Woodstock Navy Vets and Waterloo Siskins. The Woodstock, Ontario native appeared in 18 regular-season games with the Navy Vets, posting a 12-3-2 record along with a 2.04 goals-against average and a .945 save percentage. Nadalin also appeared in six playoff games, recording a .921 save percentage. Nadalin also made three appearances with the Waterloo Siskins, finishing with a 1.62 goals-against average, a .954 save percentage.

As August draws to a close, the OHL preseason is fast approaching! Teams across the league are gearing up for the weeks ahead, with training camps set to kick off as early as this weekend. Here’s a brief overview of what to expect across the OHL as teams prepare for the 2026-27 season. Additional details, including training camp rosters, will be shared as they become available.

Barrie Colts: The Barrie Colts will open training camp on Monday, August 24, at Sadlon Arena with fitness testing before shifting to intrasquad games on Tuesday, August 25, and Wednesday, August 26. The week continues with the annual Blue vs. White scrimmage on Thursday at 6:00 p.m., with free admission. Training camp will conclude with the Barrie Showcase on Saturday, August 29, and Sunday, August 30. The Colts will host the two-day preseason event at Sadlon Arena, featuring four OHL clubs: Barrie, the Owen Sound Attack, the Oshawa Generals, and the Brantford Bulldogs. Tickets for the showcase are $10 and will be available at the door. Camp Details Brampton Steelheads: The Brampton Steelheads will hold training camp at the CAA Centre from Tuesday, August 25, through Thursday, August 27. Players will be divided into four teams for a series of scrimmages on Tuesday and Wednesday as they compete for a spot in the annual Black & Gold Game. Camp concludes with the Black & Gold Game on Thursday, August 27, at 1:00 p.m., which will be open to the public. Camp Details Erie Otters: The Erie Otters will open training camp on Saturday, August 22, with intrasquad scrimmages at Erie Insurance Arena that afternoon. Camp continues with additional public scrimmages and practices from Sunday, August 23, through Tuesday, August 25. Fans attending camp are encouraged to participate in the Otters’ “School Supply Drive,” held in collaboration with the Brighter Future Foundation to help local students prepare for the upcoming school year. The roster will be divided into Team Blue and Team White for a three-game intrasquad series, with all three games open to the public free of charge. Bulldogs acquire Quinn Kipfer from Battalion

The Brantford Bulldogs and North Bay Battalion have completed a trade, with the Bulldogs acquiring 2008-born forward Quinn Kipfer from the Battalion in exchange for Brantford’s 12th-round selection in the 2028 OHL Priority Selection.

Kipfer spent the past two seasons with the Stratford Warriors of the GOJHL, recording 36 points (14-22–36). He led the Warriors in playoff scoring last season with 19 points (12-7–19) over 12 games.

Kipfer was originally selected by North Bay in the fifth round, 90th overall, of the 2024 OHL Priority Selection and appeared in two games with the Battalion during the 2025-26 season.

Firebirds acquire Bogas from Sting in exchange for Pickersgill and draft selections

The Flint Firebirds and Sarnia Sting announced Friday that the Firebirds have acquired the rights to defenceman Nicholas Bogas from Sarnia in exchange for defenceman Landon Pickersgill and four draft selections.

Bogas is a left-handed defenceman who played for the U.S. National Team Development Program last season. The Royal Oak, Michigan native was selected 139th overall by the St. Louis Blues in the fifth round of the 2026 NHL Draft. In 37 games last season, Bogas recorded two goals, two assists and a plus-nine rating. Sarnia originally selected Bogas in the 11th round of the 2024 OHL Priority Selection.

In exchange for Bogas, Sarnia acquires Landon Pickersgill, a 2027 third-round pick, a 2029 fourth-round pick, a 2030 fourth-round pick and a conditional 2030 15th-round pick. The conditional 15th-round pick reverts to a fifth-round pick should the conditions be met.

Pickersgill was selected by Flint in the seventh round of the 2025 OHL Priority Selection and recorded 13 goals and 27 assists for 40 points in 55 games with the Leamington Flyers of the OJHL last season. The Windsor, Ontario native was the highest-scoring defenceman on the Flyers and signed his Standard Player Agreement with Flint on July 31, 2026.

“Pickersgill is a strong defenceman with very good offensive instincts. He adds depth to our age group and to our defensive position”, said Sarnia Sting General Manager Dylan Seca. “This is another reliable defender who we think can help support our group overall”.

The Firebirds also provided a scouting report on Bogas from Head Scout Mike Oliverio.

“Nick adds another element to our d-core. He is physical and is rarely outworked in his own end. He has played major minutes at the international level and was relied heavily on by his coaching staff. His compete and composure will be assets to our back end.”

Colts add Daniel Sisca and Mario Cavaliere to Hockey Operations Department

The Barrie Colts announced that Daniel Sisca has joined the organization as Director of Skill Development and Mario Cavaliere has joined as Goaltending Coach. The additions come as the Colts continue to build out their hockey operations staff ahead of the 2026-27 Ontario Hockey League season.

Sisca brings five seasons of OHL experience to his new role, having played for the Owen Sound Attack, Mississauga Steelheads and Sarnia Sting. Over 314 career OHL games, Sisca recorded 332 points, including 140 goals and 192 assists.

Following his junior career, Sisca turned professional, beginning in the ECHL, where he was named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team, before advancing to the AHL and spending three additional seasons playing professionally in Europe.

Since retiring as a player, Sisca has focused on player development, working with athletes across a range of age groups and skill levels to help them refine their game and reach their full potential. That experience will now be put to work with Barrie’s roster as the club looks to strengthen its skill-development program at every level of the organization.

Cavaliere steps into his role as the Colts round out their coaching staff ahead of training camp and the 2026-27 Ontario Hockey League season.

A Mississauga, Ontario native, Cavaliere played the position at multiple levels before transitioning into coaching, and brings a goaltender’s perspective to a Barrie crease that will be relied upon as the club continues its push towards the regular season.

Cavaliere will work closely with Barrie’s goaltending group throughout the season, partnering with Director of Goaltending Frank Palazzese to build out the club’s goaltending program and reporting to the club’s hockey operations staff.

Wolves announce Hockey Operations changes

(GREATER SUDBURY, ON) – The Sudbury Wolves have announced several changes to the club’s Hockey Operations staff, including an expanded role for longtime OHL scout Dave Gray, the addition of Wade Conrad to the scouting staff, Zach Hartwick joining the organization as Athletic Therapist, as well as Josh Goddard being promoted to Assistant Equipment Manager.

Dave Gray Promoted to Assistant General Manager

Dave Gray has been promoted to Assistant General Manager, with his primary responsibilities focused on scouting, player development and free agent acquisitions. Gray joins Jeff Forsyth as an Assistant General Manager with the Wolves.

“Dave has close to 30 years of OHL scouting experience and has been part of two championship teams in the past 10 years in Hamilton,” said Wolves General Manager Rob Papineau. “He joins Jeff and I in management and is a great asset to our team. Jeff will continue to work closely with me on team services and player services including league administration and overseeing our billeting and education areas.”

Gray brings a wealth of OHL experience to his expanded role and will play an important part in identifying, acquiring and developing players as the Wolves continue to build for sustained success.

Wade Conrad Joins Wolves Scouting Staff

The Wolves have also added Wade Conrad as a Scout.

Conrad brings extensive scouting experience to Sudbury, having spent the majority of his time in the Ontario Hockey League with the Barrie Colts before working with the Niagara IceDogs last season.

“Wade is a hard-working, experienced scout who has come highly recommended by many in the game,” said Papineau. “He has spent the majority of his time with the Barrie Colts and last year was with Niagara. We are excited to welcome Wade to the Pack.”

Conrad will join the Wolves’ scouting department as the organization continues preparations for the upcoming season and future OHL Priority Selections.

Zach Hartwick Named Athletic Therapist

Sudbury has also welcomed Zach Hartwick as the club’s new Athletic Therapist.

The position represents a return to Sudbury for Hartwick, who attended university in the city before beginning his professional career as an Athletic Therapist.

Hartwick arrives with significant Canadian Hockey League experience after spending the past five seasons with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League. He also served as an Athletic Therapist with Canada at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup last summer.

“We are really excited to add Zach to the team,” said Papineau. “Getting someone with experience in the CHL is outstanding for our players. He is a great communicator and puts player health and experience as the top priority every day.”

Hartwick will oversee the day-to-day health, treatment and rehabilitation needs of Wolves players while working closely with the club’s Hockey Operations and performance staff.

The Wolves are excited to welcome Wade and Zach to Sudbury and congratulate Dave on his expanded role with the organization.

Josh Goddard Promoted to Assistant Equipment Manager

Josh Goddard has been promoted to Assistant Equipment Manager after joining the Wolves in January of 2024.

Prior to joining Sudbury, Goddard spent four seasons with the Owen Sound Attack. In his expanded role, he will take on increased responsibilities with the club and will be with the team on a more consistent basis throughout the season.

“Josh was excellent having around the team last year and made himself a valuable member of our Equipment Management staff. We are excited to have him with us” said Wolves General Manager Rob Papineau.

Greater Sudbury Secures Strategic Partnerships for the New Event Centre

The future of entertainment in Greater Sudbury took a major step forward today as the City announced three landmark agreements that establish the organizations that will operate and anchor the new Event Centre. Sudbury Wolves Sports & Entertainment (SWSE) has signed long-term agreements to make the new downtown Event Centre the home of the Sudbury Wolves and Sudbury Five, while Oak View Group (OVG), the global leader in premium live entertainment infrastructure and services, has been selected to manage the facility, as well as provide hospitality, premium services and community partnerships. Together, the agreements mark the most significant milestone in the Event Centre project since construction began in fall 2025, positioning the facility to attract premier sports and entertainment while delivering exceptional experiences for residents and visitors for decades to come. "City Council has always been clear that the investment in a new Event Centre is about more than constructing a building. It is about strengthening our community, creating new opportunities for local sports, attracting major events and entertainment, and providing a place where residents can come together and celebrate what makes Greater Sudbury special. Sudbury Wolves Sports & Entertainment to Call the New Event Centre Home The new Event Centre will become the home of the Sudbury Wolves and Sudbury Five, ensuring two of Greater Sudbury's most recognized sports franchises continue to inspire fans and bring the community together in a modern, purpose-built facility. For generations, the Sudbury Wolves have been a source of civic pride, creating lasting memories for fans and helping shape Greater Sudbury's sporting identity. Together with the Sudbury Five, SWSE brings thousands of residents and visitors together each year through sport, helping create the energy and atmosphere that will make the new Event Centre a year-round destination. Oak View Group Selected to Operate the Event Centre Following a competitive procurement process, the City selected Oak View Group to manage and operate the new 5,800 capacity Event Centre. The Superior, Wisconsin, native also suited up for the USNTDP Juniors in the USHL, where he added four assists, and is committed to the University of Minnesota-Duluth for the 2027-28 season. “Jackson Marthaler is a big, mobile, puck-moving defenceman who uses his size and skating ability extremely well. Defensively, he closes gaps quickly with his feet and takes away time and space before opposing forwards have an opportunity to create. He complements that mobility with a strong defensive stick, allowing him to disrupt plays and separate opponents from the puck without taking himself out of position. With the puck, he has the ability to transition play efficiently and move pucks up ice. His combination of size, mobility and defensive awareness gives him the tools to be a difficult matchup while providing value in transition.” Player Spotlight: Luca Santala Profile: 6’2”, 198lbs, right-shot forward Hometown: Zurich, SUI Birthdate: Jul 28, 2009 Drafted: 1st Round, 40th Overall (2026 CHL Import Draft) 2025-26 Stats (Kiekko-Espoo U18): 17 GP, 12G, 10A, 22 PTS Selected 40th overall in the 2026 CHL Import Draft, Luca Santala spent the 2025-26 season with Kiekko-Espoo in Finland, recording 12 points (7-5–12) in 25 games at the U20 level while adding 22 points (12-10–22) in 17 games with the club’s U18 team. The 6-foot-2 forward also represented Finland at the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, recording six points (2-4–6) in five games. Santala is currently projected as a first-round selection in the 2027 NHL Draft, according to Daily Faceoff’s early rankings. “Luca Santala is a complete two-way centre who plays the game the right way in all three zones. He brings a strong combination of size, hockey sense and offensive ability, while showing the details and responsibility you want to see down the middle. Offensively, his shot is a real weapon, particularly his one-timer, where he can get pucks off quickly and with power. He protects the puck extremely well, using his size and reach to extend possessions, create separation and make plays under pressure. Away from the puck, he understands positioning and works to get above plays defensively. He finished fourth in USHL scoring during both the regular season and playoffs. Zocco spent the 2024-25 season with the BCHL’s Coquitlam Express, where he also led the club in scoring with 53 points (19-34–53) in 49 games. “We’re really excited about the addition of Thomas Zocco. He’s the type of player that other players want to play with because of his ability to make everyone around him better. There’s a lot of deception and creativity in his game, and his high-level hockey sense allows him to see plays developing a step ahead.
