Firebirds acquire Devils prospect Trenten Bennett from Attack
The Flint Firebirds have acquired goaltender Trenten Bennett from the Owen Sound Attack in exchange for four draft picks.
A Kitchener, Ontario native, Bennett was originally selected by the Attack in the fourteenth round, 274th overall, of the 2022 OHL Priority Selection. The 6-foot-8, 207-pound goaltender spent parts of two seasons in Owen Sound, appearing in 33 regular season games while recording a 3.69 GAA and a 0.901 SV%.
Following a strong season with the Kemptville 73’s of the CCHL, Bennett was selected by the New Jersey Devils in the fourth round, 99th overall, of the 2025 NHL Draft. During the 2025-26 campaign, the 2006-born goaltender posted 9 wins with a 3.93 GAA and a 0.896 SV% across 27 regular season games with the Attack.
The move gives the Firebirds an NHL-drafted goaltender entering his overage season, while Owen Sound adds future draft capital as clubs continue shaping their rosters during the OHL offseason trade window. The Attack receive a 2026 third-round pick, a 2028 fifteenth-round pick, along with a 2029 fifth-round pick and a 2029 sixth-round pick in the future OHL Priority Selections.
The OHL trade window opened on June 2 and remains open until June 11 at 3:00 p.m. ahead of the 2026 OHL Priority Selection presented by Real Canadian Superstore, which takes place June 12-13 at Slush Puppie Place in Kingston.
All confirmed trades can be found on our OHL Trade Window Tracker.
