OHL Alumni on Opening Day AHL Rosters

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League is proud to announce that 190 OHL alumni are listed on American Hockey League opening day rosters representing over 24% of all players in the league to start the 2015-16 season.

Among the 190 graduates from the OHL are 39 players who competed in the league last season including seven members of the MasterCard Memorial Cup Champion Oshawa Generals.

The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds lead all OHL teams with nine players from their 2014-15 roster beginning the year in the AHL.

The Guelph Storm lead the way with 17 total graduates on opening day AHL rosters, followed by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds with 16, and the Oshawa Generals and Plymouth Whalers (Flint Firebirds) with 14 each.

All 30 AHL teams have at least one former OHL player on their opening day roster.  The Rochester Americans (Buffalo Sabres) lead the league with 13 former OHL players while the Ontario Reign (Los Angeles Kings) have the second most with 12.

The OHL continues to be a leading supplier of talent to the NHL and AHL.
