Locke named CHL player of the month

Corey Locke of the Ottawa 67’s is the CHL Player of the Month for January 2004 after scoring 14 goals and 13 assists for 27 points in 11 games.

The 19-year-old Newmarket native recorded points in every game he played last month, including four point efforts against the Belleville Bulls on January 1 and Kingston Frontenacs on January 18. He maintained a 10-game goal scoring streak through January 24. Locke, the 2003 OHL and CHL Player of the Year, was a fourth round pick of the Montreal Canadiens in the NHL Entry Draft last June. He leads all OHL scorers with 39 goals and 52 assists for 91 points in 47 games this season.

Pascal Pelletier of the Shawinigan Cataractes was the QMJHL offensive player of the month after scoring 12 goals and 19 points in 13 games. Seth Leonard of the Prince Albert Raiders was the WHL player of the month after scoring 15 goals and 24 points in 14 games.
