Friday Highlights: Storm in win column
Friday October 9, 2015
An established veteran goaltender can make a huge difference. Justin Nichols did just that on Friday night, leading the Guelph Storm to their first win of the season making 37 saves against the Owen Sound Attack in a 3-1 decision.
Nichols earned first star honours for his part in the victory while sophomore forward James MacEwan recorded his second multi-goal effort in three contests, scoring twice to be named second star.
Guelph’s first win of the season was one of eight games around the league on Friday.
GUELPH 3 OWEN SOUND 1 – The Storm got the better of an Attack squad missing key defencemen Damir Sharipzyanov and Thomas Schemitsch on Friday as James MacEwan buried a pair of goals and overaged veteran Justin Nichols made 37 saves in goal to give the Storm their first win of the season. Tyler Boston also scored for the Storm while Owen Sound’s lone marker came off the stick of Bryson Cianfrone. The loss is Owen Sound’s first in regulation this season.
