Emery Named OHL Goaltender of the Year
The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Ray Emery of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds is the 2001-02 OHL Goaltender of the Year.
Emery, a 19-year-old native of Cayuga, posted a league-high 33 wins, along with a .914 save percentage, 2.73 goals against average and four shutouts while posting a 33-17-9 record in 59 games with the Greyhounds this season.
He was named OHL Goaltender of the Month in October after posting a 6-1-4 record, 2.03 goals against average and .936 save percentage in 11 games.
The OHL Goaltender of the Year is awarded to the league’s most outstanding goaltender as selected by OHL coaches and general managers. Teams were not permitted to vote for a goaltender from their own hockey club. Goaltenders received five points for a first place vote, three points for a second place vote and one point for a third place vote.
Emery received 69 points in the voting process, followed by runner-up Peter Budaj of the Toronto St. Michael’s Majors with 38 points and David Chant of the Barrie Colts with 28 points.
Emery is the Ontario Hockey League nominee for the CHL Goaltender of the Year Award presented by Louisville, Koho, Heaton and Vaughn at the Canadian Hockey League Awards ceremony.
