Hounds’ Tolchinsky signs with Hurricanes

Carolina Hurrianes Vice President of Hockey Operations Ron Francis announced this morning that they have agreed to terms with Greyhounds forward SERGEY TOLCHINSKY.

Tolchinsky, who was previously an NHL free agent, inked a three-year entry level contract with the ‘Canes.

The native of Moscow, Russia is coming off his rookie campaign with the Hounds where he posted 26 goals and 25 assists (51 points) in 62 regular season games before grabbing four points in six playoff contests.
He was later named co-winner of the Hounds Rookie of the Year Award and then represented Team Russia at the 2013 IIHF World U18 Hockey Championship.

“Obviously our Program is absolutely thrilled for Sergey.  Having been at the drat in Newark and seeing how disappointed Sergey was when he was not selected, it is a true testament to his character and his ability that he was able to put that disappointment behind him and perform so well at both the NYR and CAR prospects Camps in July.  It’s absolutely fantastic to see someone who loves the game of hockey and brings an unbridled enthusiasm to the rink everyday attain his goal of signing an NHL contract” stated Hounds GM Kyle Dubas.

Tolchinsky, is presently in Sault Ste. Marie assisting with the Hounds Annual Hockey School, and will be one of over fifty players present when Training Camp 2013 opens in less than a week here in Sault Ste. Marie.
