Wozniak joins Walleye, Tiu returns as Spirit Equipment Manager
Saginaw, Mich. – The Saginaw Spirit announced Friday that equipment manager Adam Wozniak has joined the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL. Lester Tiu (pronounced “TOO”) will return to the role of Spirit equipment manager after a stint with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League (AHL).
“We’re grateful for the time Adam spent in Saginaw and his dedication to the players,” said Spirit GM Dave Drinkill. “He’s earned this opportunity in his home town through hard work. We’ll miss him and we wish him continued success.”
The Toledo, Ohio native Wozniak spent two seasons as Saginaw’s equipment manager. His return to the Walleye comes as a full-circle moment; he was Toledo’s assistant equipment before venturing up to Saginaw in 2021.
“It’s exciting to be able to bring Lester back into the fold for such an important season,” continued Drinkill. “He’s familiar with our facilities and our organization, and now he can bring multiple seasons of AHL experience back with him.”
Tiu’s second tour of duty with the Spirit comes after two seasons with the Chicago Wolves, AHL affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes. During his second season in Chicago, the Wolves captured the 2022 Calder Cup. His prior OHL experience includes equipment management jobs in Sarnia and Mississauga before three seasons with the Spirit. Tiu’s signing is pending U.S. Immigration approval.
The Spirit begin play with four preseason games in the month of September, including one at home against the Soo Greyhounds on September 23rd. The 2023-2024 regular season begins on September 29th in Kitchener, and Saginaw’s home opener is set for September 30th against the Sarnia Sting. Single game tickets go on sale August 14th.
