Wednesday Highlights: Hancock nets winner, climbs into scoring lead

Daniel Murphy was the star of the show, but Kevin Hancock (23) came through for the Owen Sound Attack, netting a goal and an assist in a 2-1 road win over the Erie Otters. Hancock’s game winner 6:33 into the third period pushed him into the OHL scoring lead with 48 points (23-25–48) on the campaign as the Bears outshot the Otters 51-22 and picked up two points. Daylon Groulx (9) also scored for Owen Sound while Mack Guzda made 21 saves, helping the Attack improve to 14-10-1-2. The aforementioned Murphy earned first star honours with 49 saves. Erie’s lone goal came from Gera Poddubnyi (13) as the Otters fall to 10-15-1-0.

OTTAWA 6, KINGSTON 2
The CHL’s third-ranked Ottawa 67’s struck for four third period goals to take a 6-2 School Day Game victory in Kingston. San Jose Sharks prospect Sasha Chmelevski (10) extended his point streak to seven games with a goal and three assists while defencemen Noel Hoefenmayer (5) and Hudson Wilson (1) each had a goal and two helpers. Kody Clark (10), Matthew Maggio (3) and Tye Felhaber (26) added singles as Ottawa outshot Kingston 39-27 and went 3-for-4 on the power play. The win extends Ottawa’s point streak to 22 straight games as the 67’s improve to a league-leading 21-3-3-1. Paul Larabie (1) and Jakob Brahaney (3) scored Kingston goals as the Frontenacs fell to 7-19-1-0 following their third straight loss.
