Thursday Highlights: Wolves win big
SUDBURY 8 – BARRIE 2
Eight goals in the final 40 minutes put the Sudbury Wolves over the Barrie Colts 8-2 on the road. Minnesota Wild prospect Dmitry Sokolov (12, 13) scored twice and had two assists while Blake Murray (6, 7) also lit the lamp twice and Drake Pilon (1), Anthony Tabak (1), Troy Lajeunesse (7) and Macauley Carson (2) had other goals. The Sudbury power play went 2-for-5 while holding Barrie to an 0-for-6 mark. Jake McGrath turned aside 33 shots in goal while Michael Pezzetta, Darian Pilon and Emmett Serensits all had two assists. Alexey Lipanov (7) and Zach Magwood (11) scored for the Colts who entered play as the seventh-ranked team in the CHL this week. Sudbury snaps a four game slide, improving to 7-12-4-0.

SAULT STE. MARIE 5 – NORTH BAY 4 – OT
The North Bay Battalion continued to play the Soo Greyhounds tough on Thursday, taking them to overtime before Boris Katchouk forced a turnover and Morgan Frost (11) provided the finish in a 5-4 Greyhounds OT road win. Trailing 4-3 with five minutes to go, Tim Gettinger (10) tied the score and sent the game to overtime where the Hounds extended their current winning streak to seven games. Cole MacKay (3), Barrett Hayton (9) and Jack Kopacka (11) also found the back of the net while Katchouk finished the night with three assists. The Greyhounds outshot the Battalion 37-28, going 2-for-6 on the power play. North Bay goals came from Justin Brazeau (13), Brett McKenzie (6), Luke Burghardt (8) and Luke Moncada (4) as they dropped their fifth straight game. The Greyhounds lead the West Division with a record of 16-3-2-0.

KINGSTON 4 – NIAGARA 2
Kingston Frontenacs captain Ted Nichol had three assists as his club took a 4-2 road win in Niagara on Thursday. Nathan Dunkley (5), Sergey Popov (4), Tyler Burnie (8) and Ryan Cranford (8) all scored while Mario Peccia made 26 saves. Edmonton Oilers prospect Kirill Maksimov (9, 10) responded with a pair of goals for the IceDogs who fall to 8-7-3-1. The Frontenacs sit one point behind first place Hamilton in the East Division, boasting an overall record of 11-6-1-2.

OSHAWA 4 – PETERBOROUGH 1
The Oshawa Generals snapped a five game losing streak as Nick Wong (9) and Jack Studnicka (5) both had a goal and an assist in a 4-1 road win over the rival Peterborough Petes. The Generals outshot the Petes 35-22 as Cole Ceci made 21 saves to collect the win. Domenico Commisso (5) and Kenny Huether (10) added Oshawa goals as the Generals improve to 9-10-2-0. Petes rookie Nick Robertson (5) opened the scoring 9:50 into the first period before the Generals struck for four unanswered.

OWEN SOUND 6 – WINDSOR 3
A four goal third period pushed the Owen Sound Attack past the Windsor Spitfires 6-3 on the road. Vegas Golden Knights prospect Nick Suzuki (11) led the way with a goal and two assists while Aidan Dudas (12) and Jonah Gadjovich (8) both had a goal and an assist. Kevin Hancock (10), Ethan Szypula (3) and Daylon Groulx (2) also tickled the twine for the Bears as they improve to 11-6-0-2. Sean Day (4), Daniel D’Amico (2) and Logan Brown (9) countered for the Spitfires while Michel DiPietro made 34 saves in the loss. Attack rookie Mack Guzda was in goal for the win, making 21 saves on the night.

LONDON 7 – GUELPH 4
Anaheim Ducks prospect Max Jones (9, 10) scored twice while Buffalo Sabres pick Cliff Pu (6) had a goal and three assists as the London Knights defeated visiting Guelph 7-4. Overage winger Sam Miletic (5) earned first star honours with a goal and two assists while draft eligible blueliner Evan Bouchard (5) had a goal and a helper of his own. Alex Formenton (5, 6) also scored twice for the Knights, adding a late empty netter to put things out of reach as the Knights improved to 8-10-2-0. Cedric Ralph (5, 6) had two goals and an assist for Guelph in the loss while Cam Hillis (7) and Mason Primeau (1) also had markers. Guelph’s three-game winning streak comes to an end as they fall to 10-8-0-2 in the Midwest Division.
