Thursday Highlights: Battalion keep battlin’

 

NORTH BAY 4 – NIAGARA 1
Vancouver Canucks prospect Brett McKenzie (25, 26) scored twice while Steve Harland (23) had a goal and an assist as the North Bay Battalion busted out of a five game slump, defeating the visiting Niagara IceDogs 4-1. The win keeps the Troops within striking distance of the seventh place IceDogs in the Eastern Conference as North Bay remains one point back of the eighth place Ottawa 67’s for the final playoff spot. Kyle Potts (9) also had a goal while netminder Brent Moran made 33 saves. Rookie forward Oliver Castleman (15) scored the lone goal for Niagara as the IceDogs were outshot 40-34. The Battalion lead the season series between the two clubs 3-2.

HAMILTON 4 – PETERBOROUGH 3
Brandon Saigeon (16, 17) stayed hot, scoring his fourth and fifth goals in the past two games as the Hamilton Bulldogs snuck past the Peterborough Petes on the road 4-3. Bulldogs defenceman Jack Hanley (2) scored the game winner midway through the third period as Hamilton won their third straight contest to remain within one point of fourth place Kingston in the Eastern Conference. Los Angeles Kings prospect Matt Luff (19) also scored for Hamilton while goaltender Dawson Carty made 33 saves as the Bulldogs ended Peterborough’s three game winning streak. Toronto Maple Leafs draftee Nikita Korostelev (28) had a goal and an assist for the Petes while Kyle Jenkins (11) and Cole Fraser (6) also scored. The Petes remain tied for the East Division lead with rival Oshawa.

WINDSOR 6 – SARNIA 3
Gabriel Vilardi (23) and Graham Knott (12) each had a goal and two assists while Adam Laishram pitched in with three helpers as the Windsor Spitfires doubled up the visiting Sarnia Sting 6-3. Aaron Luchuk (21) scored 6:33 into the third period to put Windsor ahead for good, helping the Spits pull even with fourth place Owen Sound in their quest for home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Mikhail Sergachev (8) and Jeremiah Addison (22) also scored for Windsor as the Spits outshot Sarnia 42-25. Jeff King (8), Jordan Ernst (7) and Drake Rymsha (23) scored for Sarnia in the loss. Windsor trails first place Sault Ste. Marie by three points in the West Division.
