1ST STAR: DAMIEN GIROUX (SAGINAW SPIRIT):
Minnesota Wild prospect Damien Giroux scored twice, netting the overtime winner 2:47 into the extra frame as the Saginaw Spirit took a 4-3 win in Sault Ste. Marie. Giroux’s 10th and 11th goals of the season vault him into a tie with Peterborough’s Nick Robertson for the league goal-scoring lead as the Spirit improved to 6-4-1-0 atop the West Division. Giroux has now scored in five of his past six games and has a total of 15 points (11-4–15) in 11 games this season. The 19-year-old Hanmer, Ont., native was a fifth round pick of Minnesota in 2018.
2ND STAR: TRISTAN LENNOX (SAGINAW SPIRIT):
Sophomore netminder Tristan Lennox made 35 saves, backstopping the Saginaw Spirit to a 4-3 overtime win in Sault Ste. Marie. Lennox helped the Spirit prevail despite being outshot 38-28, improving his record to 4-4-1-0 with a 3.66 goals-against average and .878 save percentage over nine contests. The 16-year-old Cambridge, Ont. native was Saginaw’s second round pick in 2018.
3RD STAR: HOLDEN WALE (SOO GREYHOUNDS):
Soo Greyhounds defenceman Holden Wale had a goal and an assist as the Soo Greyhounds fell 4-3 to the Saginaw Spirit in overtime on Wednesday. The 19-year-old defenceman from Brantford, Ont. entered action with one goal in nine games on the season, stepping up to help his team earn a point in the overtime loss. Wale comes off a 15-point (3-12–15) campaign in 2018-19. He was Sault Ste. Marie’s fourth round pick in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection.
