Three Stars: December 12, 2018
1ST STAR: JAMIESON REES (SARNIA STING):
2019 NHL Draft prospect Jamieson Rees scored his third goal of the season on a nice one-timer with 6:42 left in the second period. The sophomore standout also set up Adam Ruzicka for the game’s tying goal with 2:40 remaining in regulation, forcing overtime where the Sting would defeat the London Knights 5-4 on home ice. Just 10 games into an injury-shortened campaign, Rees has a total of nine points (3-6–9). The 17-year-old from Hamilton, Ont. won a gold medal with Canada at the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup in Edmonton this past summer. The former OHL Cup champion was Sarnia’s first round pick in 2017 from the Mississauga Reps Minor Midgets.
2ND STAR: HUGO LEUFVENIUS (SARNIA STING):
Second-year winger Hugo Leufvenius extended his point streak to a season-high 16 games on Wednesday, scoring his 20th of the campaign 1:16 into the second period. Leufvenius later scored the shootout winner as the Sarnia Sting defeated visiting London 5-4, giving them their first win over the Knights in four tries so far this season. The big 6-foot-3, 224Ib flank will attend Sweden’s National Junior Team Selection Camp and has 39 points (20-19–39) over 33 games this season. Leufvenius was the 22nd overall pick of the 2017 CHL Import Draft.
3RD STAR: CONNOR McMICHAEL (LONDON KNIGHTS):
2019 NHL Draft prospect Connor McMichael scored his 20th of the campaign as the London Knights fell 5-4 in a shootout against the 402 rival Sarnia Sting. The 17-year-old Ajax, Ont. native teamed up with Sergey Popov to find the back of the net just beyond the midway point of the second period. McMichael now has points in seven of his last eight games, leading the Knights with 32 points (20-12–32) over 29 games this season. The Ajax-Pickering Raiders graduate was a first round pick of the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2017.
