Stuart Rolofs named 71st captain in Generals history
Oshawa, ON—The Oshawa Generals are pleased to announce their leadership group for the 2023/2024 season. Calum Ritchie, Thomas Stewart, and Ben Danford will each wear ‘A’s as assistant captains. Ryder McIntyre joins the leadership group as an alternate, while OA forward Stuart Rolofs becomes the team’s captain.
Drafted in the 1st round, 20th overall in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection by the London Knights, Rolofs was acquired by the Generals via a trade in December 2021. Entering 2023, Rolofs will be skating in his third season with Oshawa. During the 2021-2022 season, Rolofs appeared in 47 games with the Generals, scoring 13 goals and adding 26 assists, for 39 points. Rolofs had his most successful season on record the next year, appearing in 62 games, scoring 32 goals and 29 assists for a career-high 61 points.
His career-best season recently earned him an invite to the Ottawa Senator’s development camp.
Ritchie, entering his third season, is another General dawning a letter for the second year in a row. Drafted second overall in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection, Ritchie scored 45 points as a 16-year-old, by way of 19 goals and 26 assists. Last season, while battling injury, Ritchie appeared in 59 games, scoring 24 goals and 35 assists for 59 points. Earning attention from the pro ranks, Ritchie was selected 27th overall by the Colorado Avalanche at the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
Stewart is entering his third season with the Generals after being acquired from the Barrie Colts at the beginning of 2021. Last season, Stewart finished his second season with four goals and seventeen assists for 21 points. This will be his second season wearing the ‘A’.
Danford is entering his second season with the Generals, as an impressive 16-year-old rookie season. Despite being a rookie, Danford played heavy minutes throughout the entire season, being relied upon as one of the Generals best defensemen. In 63 games, he scored four goals and 17 assists for 21 points. He took home the Scholastic Player of the Year award and co-Rookie of the Year honours at the 2023 Oshawa Generals Awards Banquet.
Finally, McIntyre rounds out the leadership group as one of the more experienced players on the roster.
