The OHL Weekend Notebook recaps the weekend that was with news, information and interesting facts from both on and off the ice. Here are 10 of the leading stories from this past weekend.
Hounds earn road sweep
The Soo Greyhounds came out flying this past weekend with a clean sweep on the road, earning wins in Niagara, Erie, and Mississauga. The club put up a total of 13 goals on their opponents, and leading scorers Tye Kartye and Jaromir Pytlik both put up four points each (2-2-4). Overage netminder Bailey Brkin won all three contests, improving to 7-3-1-0 since joining the Hounds from the Western Hockey League’s Moose Jaw Warriors last month. Greyhounds captain Ryan O’Rourke scored in his return to the lineup on Thursday and proceeded to record assists on Friday and Sunday. Their three straight wins pushed them past the Sarnia Sting and into fourth place in the West Division.

Ottawa claims Alexandra Cup in Battle of Ottawa River
The Ottawa 67’s have been on a roll, and the two-game Battle of the Ottawa River Series against the rival QMJHL’s Gatineau Olympiques was no different. After claiming the first game on Friday in a 4-0 blanking, Cedrick Andree’s sixth career shutout, the Barber Poles skated past the interleague opponents 5-1 in Sunday’s Sportsnet broadcast. Marco Rossi continues to light up the league, extending his point streak to game number 11. Overage winger Joseph Garreffa is on a similar path, having picked up points in his last 11 straight games as well. That’s nine in a row for the red hot Barber Poles, as they continue to trade their league-leading slot with the fellow East Division Peterborough Petes, tied for 44 points each.

The Kitchener Rangers powered through another weekend unscathed, pushing their winning streak to six games. The Blueshirts were victorious against Windsor and Oshawa before capping it off with a shootout victory over the Owen Sound Attack. The squad has yet to lose under the guidance of interim head coach Mike McKenzie.

Kingston turning season around
Despite a 3-1 loss in Saturday’s second of a home and home with the Peterborough Petes, the Frontenacs continue to be on the upswing with seven wins in their last nine games, a feat worth highlighting after the club’s slow start to the year. Rookie Shane Wright carries over a nine-game point streak in which he’s collected 14 points (9-5-14). The 15-year-old now sits at the top of the OHL rookie scoring race with 25 points (14-11-25) through his 24 games in the league.

Dellandrea posts eleven-point weekend
Dallas Stars prospect Ty Dellandrea had a dazzling weekend with eleven points (6-5-11) in three games, including his second career hat trick in Thursday’s 5-2 contest in Barrie to earn him title of OHL ‘On The Run’ Player of the Week. Dellandrea continues to lead all Firebirds with 37 points (17-20-37), and his two four-point nights are season-high feats. The Firebirds earned four out of six points in a weekend road trip that included stops in Barrie, Sudbury and North Bay.

Goalies earn a weekend for the books
Kitchener’s Jacob Ingham led an array of high-save performances around the league this past weekend with a 51-save night over the Owen Sound Attack in a 3-2 shootout victory. Thursday evening saw Niagara rookie Tucker Tynan stop 41 of 46 shots and Kingston’s Christian Propp end the night with a 40-save total. Anthony Popovich also maintained an impressive 45-save night for the Flint Firebirds on Thursday. Rookie Benjamin Gaudreau amassed 44 saves in net for the Sting Sunday afternoon that included 22 saves in the first period alone. Also worth mentioning are Nico Daws’ 39-save night up against the Barrie Colts Friday, and Propp totalling the same amount of saves in what would be a 3-1 loss to the Peterborough Petes on Saturday.

Saginaw sets new club record
The Spirit picked up two of four points over the weekend, but made headlines on Friday with an 11-goal showing against the Sarnia Sting, setting a new single game club record. Overage winger and New York Islanders prospect Cole Coskey led the way with four points (1-3-4) on the night, while leading Spirit scorer and hot 2020 NHL Draft prospect Cole Perfetti wasn’t far behind with three (2-1-3), including two goals. The Spirit saw goals from nine different players and posted 48 shots on Sarnia goaltenders Ethan Langevin and Benjamin Gaudreau.

North Bay, Barrie, Erie, Oshawa searching for wins
The North Bay Battalion were unsuccessful in their single weekend game, landing their fourth consecutive loss and league-highest 23rd of the season. The Barrie Colts weren’t able to sneak out any points in all three weekend matches, and the Erie Otters’ woes continued with a winless weekend and now five-game losing skid. The once-first place Generals picked up one out of a possible four points and are now winless in their last four games.
