This week’s segment features New York Islanders prospect Blade Jenkins of the Saginaw Spirit who enters the weekend with 17 goals and 23 assists for 40 points in 41 games. The Spirit are second in the West Division standings with a 26-12-2-2 record with home games Saturday against the Erie Otters and Sunday against the Windsor Spitfires.
An 18-year-old from Jackson, Michigan, Jenkins is playing in just his second OHL season with the Spirit after committing to the club prior to the 2017-18 campaign. The first round pick in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection produced 44 points in 68 games and was named a First Team All-Rookie. He went on to be a fifth round pick by the Islanders in the 2018 NHL Draft.
Jenkins chats with Doyle about what’s made the Spirit successful, especially in the early stages of the season’s second half. He describes his personal performance, how he’s enjoyed the Saginaw community and developing as a member of the organization, the club’s recent acquisitions, goals for this season, and some of the more quirky characters on the team.
