OHL mourns the loss of original Sting voice George Heath
The Ontario Hockey League is saddened by the passing of the original voice of Sarnia Sting hockey. George Heath passed away on Sunday at the age of 88.
Heath, who came to Sarnia in 1972 to work as Sports Director at CHOK Radio, was involved with the Sarnia Bees Junior B franchise and the Petroila Squires prior to the Sting relocating to Sarnia from Newmarket in 1994.
Prior to moving to Sarnia, Heath called the Memorial Cup victory by the Cornwall Royals in 1972, and provided colour for the Royals’ Memorial Cup victory in Windsor in 1981. The Royals were forerunners to the Sting franchise in Sarnia. Following his retirement from 42 years of broadcasting in 2001, Heath continued play-by-play for the Sting on CHOK until 2004.
Heath is reunited with his wife Elaine (2018). Visitation will be held on Monday, December 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sarnia. A service for will be held on Tuesday, December 10 at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Sarnia.
