OHL mourns the loss of John Heeley
The Ontario Hockey League and the Guelph Storm Hockey Club are mourning the loss of former long-time team owner, John Heeley, who passed away on Thursday, April 4th at the age of 77.
Originally from Wakefield, West Yorkshire England, John was an integral part of the Guelph Storm organization during his 30 years as a member of the ownership group. John was key in collaborating with the City of Guelph to build the Sleeman Centre which opened in October 2000. He was a key member of the team that saw the Guelph Storm host the Memorial Cup in 2002. His efforts continue to play a pivotal role in the success of the organization.
“I was fortunate enough to work closely with John for over 15 years and he was a huge part of the Storm and our community for well over two decades. John was always happy to stay behind the scenes and let others enjoy the spotlight, but his influence on the organization and in particular our business principles continue to be a big part of our success today. John was a ‘team first’ man who will be missed by everyone who had the good fortune to work with him and learn from him,” said Guelph Storm Vice President, Matt Newby.
The League and the Guelph Storm extend prayers and condolences to Theresa, Michelle, and Michael, along with their families, friends, and all who knew John.
